Yeah. Occidi, the earth spirit, kept me in the jungle. I looked for days for everyone else, but even on my glider I couldn't find anyone...
[Which is weird considering the speed of his glider. Tellus really has to be huge. But enough about him and his definitely not shot self. Roxas sounds stuffy and gross, something Terra picks up on straight away.]
Did you get sick while you were out there? I'll come over and bring some stuff to make you feel better.
Oh... I wasn't in the jungle anymore. We were with Caeli, and we had to climb this mountain... I couldn't really get far from everyone else without knowing where it led the other way, though.
[so basically, something completely different than what terra was up to. he couldn't use his corridors without his coat for safety, and even if he could, not knowing the destination seemed dangerous.
he pauses after a second, considering everything else terra says. but not before sniffling and stifling back a small cough.] Sick? I dunno, I woke up like this before... I guess because it was pretty cold up there.
[that's... how it works, right? that's what other people always said, at least.] You don't have to worry Terra, I'll be okay.
[save for the fact that he barely knows how to take care of himself in a sick state but whatever!! no big deal!!]
[It's probably all that ice cream he eats finally catching up with him, right?]
Even if you just caught a cold, you sound pretty rough. I'll grab some stuff from the store and be right over.
[Terra has no idea how good Roxas is at taking care of himself, but Ven was pretty helpless whenever he was bedridden, so he can't imagine leaving Roxas in a similar state. There's sounds of movement and rustling, presumably as Terra gets ready to head out.
They can talk about Roxas' mountain adventures more later, once he's checked up on him.]
[wow rude, totally not all the ice cream! ice cream is scared.]
I guess you're not gonna give me much of a choice, huh? [even though he says that a bit flatly, roxas doesn't really mind that much.
it's true that he doesn't know much of what he's doing, and while it's also true that he doesn't want to cause terra any trouble and make him worry... there's something kind of nice about it. someone caring enough to worry and want to help.
he appreciates it, really. he feels pretty terrible, even if he's doing his best to try and ignore it. being sick is weird, and even though he's heard about what it's like, it's so much different actually experiencing it.]
[It's the least Terra can do, after Roxas went out of his way to visit Terra after he was shot. This is a little less serious, but he's still eager to help if he can.
When he responds, he sounds a little amused by the flatness of Roxas' answer.]
Nope. See you soon.
[The Cerevice clicks off, and Big Brother Mode is well and truly on.
Within the hour, there's a knock on the door. Whenever Roxas answers, Terra is armed to the teeth with bags filled with soup, ramen, tea -- Eraqus, being traditional as he was, had always sworn by tea -- medicines Terra had never seen before but the CERES employee at the store assured him would help, and even blankets.
You know, just in case Roxas didn't have any and was shivering in his room, or something.]
[it doesn't take all that long for roxas to answer the door; he's awake now and has mostly just been idly playing with his cerevice in the meanwhile. doing anything else feels like a lot of effort, even though it's probably pretty clear he isn't in the worst shape ever when terra sees him.
he may look a bit tired (and he feels it, while also being both headache-y and... achy in general), but he's not the picture of seriously illness, either. it's a pretty common cold, which is at least easy to deal with. or more likely, easy for terra to deal with, but since this is mostly new to roxas... well, he's not sure what to make of things.]
Whoa—isn't that a lot of stuff? [hello, terra. sometimes it's better to forego greetings to be in shock at shopping bags filled with who-knows-what.]
[Terra had been worried initially, but he perks up when Roxas answers the door. He's at least on his feet, and he's only a little under the weather -- at least it's not the flu or something worse.
He steps inside, and nods.]
That's the idea. I figured if you were sick, you probably won't be able to make it to the store for a few days, so I got you enough stuff until it goes away. Here--
[He'll toss the blankets at him to catch, then set about unpacking everything. Looks like Roxas is going to be big brothered whether he likes it or not.]
[he fumbles a little to catch the blankets—maybe he's a little off-kilter from the cold. or maybe he wasn't expecting it. still, roxas is just sick enough to not hold back some of the sass usually reserved for his organization comrades.]
I don't have a lot here, but I do have blankets, you know... [which... is true. his apartment is pretty sparse in the personality department, save for a few things here and there with a beachy, summery motif. he sniffles (rather ungracefully) before following terra to see exactly what it is he brought.
...and he's not shy to question it, either.] What is all of this? [okay, so he's not totally inept to things like soup and tea, but there are a few things he's never seen before. there's so many things!! being sick seems complicated....]
Well, I can't take them back now. They're covered with Roxas Flu.
[Terra grins over at Roxas as he finishes unpacking. Make a blanket fort with the extra blanket, become a Roxas burrito, the world is your oyster, friend. To his question, Terra seems surprised.] You're sick and you didn't know what any of the remedies are? You're pretty hopeless, aren't you?
[Despite the teasing, he's used to explaining things to Ven from back when he had amnesia, so he doesn't mind.]
I got you some soup and some noodles, and here's some tea. My master-- [Terra halts on the word, and his expression becomes solemn,] my father, he'd always give me tea if I got sick.
[Moving quickly along from that subject... Terra gestures to the medicine.]
As for these, they're kind of like Potions, but don't drink them, okay? Read the instructions first.
[he can't help but protest, a bit indignant. he's never been sick in the last year, not at all since he's become a nobody. and while maybe when he was whole he had been... he doesn't remember it. so he's pouting just a bit, if only because being called hopeless is totally rude.
maybe it's not a terrible thing though, since he's acting a little more unfiltered than usual. roxas tends to hold back at least a little, because despite the fact that he chooses to trust in terra, there's still a lot he doesn't know. but in this state, being under the weather and not wanting to make the effort, it's a little easier to snark and prod the way he always did with the organization.
in any case, roxas is picking up one of the medicine bottles, looking at it curiously.] I won't just drink something if I don't know what it is. I'm not a little kid, you know...
[give him a little credit, terra! at least he's tactful enough to not ask about what he meant by calling the master his father... he probably wouldn't understand much of that relationship anyway, since he knows next to nothing about how families work.]
Thanks, though. [he'll finally say after a moment. despite not really liking the kid treatment, he does appreciate that terra's so willing to help him. roxas had been prepared to just try and work through it on his own before this.]
[Protesting that he's not a kid is exactly the kind of thing Ven would do. Terra can't help it, he lets out a soft laugh again.]
All right, I get it. I don't think you're a kid. I just don't want you to get even more sick, or feel like you have to stick it out on your own, you know?
[Maybe he's getting a little carried away to the point of being overbearing, though... Someone has to do it, without Aqua around.]
You're welcome. If you need me to grab anything else, just let me know. [...Overbearing, and yet he can't stop.]
[it can't be helped—he's just legitimately not used to this kind of treatment. back in the organization, he could count on axel to explain things; sometimes the others would too, but it never came with concern on this level. there wasn't any going out of one's way to help someone else. roxas can practically envision saïx sneering at the notion as soon as it comes to mind.
(which causes a brief expression of irritation to cloud his features, though it quickly passes.)]
I'm pretty sure there's enough here to last me a year. [okay, maybe that's a bit of an exaggeration, but really, terra... it's a lot of stuff. more than he would have ever expected was necessary.]
I hope you know that's not an excuse to get sick for the whole year. [Still teasing!!] Rest up and drink plenty, and you'll be fine. This stuff will just make it a little easier on you.
[No mountain climbing in the near future would also be a smart idea. Speaking of which...]
So what happened when we were separated, exactly? Did you learn anything interesting while you were up there?
[he nods, he's got it, terra... he'll get over this cold eventually, somehow. and try to avoid it happening again because he really doesn't enjoy it. but at least he's pretty good at sucking it up and trying not to be a whiny baby about it.]
Not really. We had to climb for a while, but there wasn't that much at the top. Not anymore, at least. We had to fight some huge birds, and there was... a shack with a table and some blood and bird feathers. [he shrugs a little.] I'm not really sure what it was all about, though.
[he'd been kind of focused on other stuff by the time they got to the top of the mountain.]
Did you get a chance to ask Caeli about it? The spirits must know a lot about the areas they brought everyone to.
[In hindsight, Terra almost wishes he'd asked Occidi for more information about her particular domain on Tellus. But then, his thoughts were on bigger things -- how to save everyone and fix the worlds, not investigating the smaller puzzles of this place.]
[but not by darkness. well, maybe that makes some sense, they'd probably know if it was darkness. even roxas isn't that inept.]
So CERES might have... corrupted us with something, then? I don't feel any different, though. [so what could it be? he doesn't really get that part. not that he really expects terra to actually know either.]
I don't know how. But when I asked Occidi how I could get everyone back to their worlds and put things back to how they should be, she said it isn't possible as we are now. We're not free to leave... because we're not 'whole'.
[Whatever that means. It's vague, but it's a better answer than nothing. And now Terra knows what he has to do.]
Roxas, I have to keep fighting CERES. Whatever happens, I want to free everyone so they can go back to their homes.
[what? roxas knows he's not whole already, so that's not the part that confuses him. but what about terra, mary, and everyone else? what did it mean... weren't they already whole? and if they're not whole, what does it makes someone like roxas, who wasn't whole to begin with? he wonders if that makes him even more of a fraction than he had been in the first place.
obviously, this troubles him. probably in a very obvious way, too... more so than maybe anyone would expect without actually knowing what this means for him. but roxas doesn't want to trouble terra any more than necessary; he's still not sure how to even approach the topic of being a nobody anyway.]
I want to help. [to take on ceres, or whoever they have to.] I can't just sit by and not do anything...
Are you sure? You've seen how dangerous CERES can be.
[Terra glances down to his arm, where there's still a faint scar from a bullet. It's healed over now, but he's not about to forget it any time soon.]
I don't want you to get hurt.
[Sure, Terra might have wanted them to be a team now. But part of him still doesn't like the idea of Roxas doing anything too dangerous, not up against a group who very nearly killed him.]
[he shakes his head with a bit of conviction. he knows there are risks, but how could it possibly be worse than what he's already been through so long as he doesn't get destroyed in the process?]
I can't let other people do something if I can help, too. There are people here to can't fight at all, and I want to them. [friends like mary, who deserve better than what ceres puts them through.] I know how to fight just fine.
[he beat up saïx and riku, that totally counts for something.]
[He seems so serious and sure of himself, it almost reminds Terra of Ven, and his determination to follow him everywhere, even if he wasn't ready. Maybe this time it's for the best that he lets Roxas help... Maybe before, he'd made a mistake in not letting Ven do the same.
So after a thoughtful pause, Terra nods, and his serious expression softens a little.]
I believe you. [Then he adds wryly--] But you won't be fighting anything in that state. We can plan more once you're up to it, all right?
